The Perfect Breast Screening Routine Part 1

Choosing a breast screening routine can be overwhelming, expensive, and frustrating all at the same time.

Mammograms, ultrasounds, MRI's, blood work, thermograms, genetic testing, self exams, and clinical breast exams are all ways to assess breast health.

How do you begin to choose which one(s) to include in your breast care routine without spending all your time and money at doctor's offices?

Let's start with the easy one.

Self examinations are so easy, inexpensive, and effective that I recommend doing this daily.

You should know your breasts like the back of your hand.

In the case something abnormal appears you should be able to quickly identify it as such.

Is it tender to the touch? Is it soft or hard? Is it mobile or does it stay in one spot?

Is there any discharge from the nipple? If so, what color is it?

All of these are crucial potential red flags for cancer and can only be discovered through a routine self examination of the breast.

Most women find doing this routine is easiest in the shower.

You can find a good step by step self examination routine here: https://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/testing/types/self_exam

Next week we'll discuss the other screening methods you should be sure to include in your routine.

Until then, be sure to begin performing a self examination every day.
