Pain-Free Breast Cancer Screening
We have the technology to do better.
The Status Quo isn’t good enough.
-
Studies have shown that while mammography has increased the detection of small tumors, it has only slightly reduced the number of advanced tumors. Many of these small tumors detected through mammograms are cases of overdiagnosis—tumors that would never have progressed to a more serious stage if left untreated. However, they are still being labeled as cancer, leading many women to undergo unnecessary treatments, exposing them to harmful side effects without any real benefit.
-
Mammography often detects tumors with favorable molecular features, which tend to grow slowly and are easier to treat. This creates a longer window for detection before symptoms appear, a phenomenon known as length-bias sampling. While this makes it seem like survival rates improve with early detection, these tumors usually respond just as well to treatment when symptoms arise. As a result, earlier detection through mammography doesn’t necessarily reduce breast cancer mortality.
-
Routine mammogram screenings expose women to radiation, which can increase the risk of developing radiation-induced breast cancer, particularly for those who start screening at a younger age, undergo frequent screenings, or carry the BRCA gene. Additionally, the compression involved in mammography, which uses around 42 pounds of pressure, can cause significant pain and may pose a risk of rupturing cancerous tumors. This compression could potentially release malignant cells into the bloodstream, increasing the risk of cancer spread.
-
Bias in medical literature has contributed to overdiagnosis and overtreatment in mammography, while also shaping public perception of its effectiveness. A review of 171 studies found that many were authored by individuals or groups with vested interests in promoting mammography, such as financial ties to screening programs or equipment manufacturers. These studies tend to emphasize the benefits of mammography while downplaying the harms, leading to skewed recommendations and the widespread implementation of screening protocols that may not accurately reflect the true impact of mammography on breast cancer mortality.
Thermography
The Safer, More Insightful Choice for Breast Health
-
Unlike mammograms, thermography involves no compression or radiation. Getting thermographic images is as simple as getting your picture taken.
-
Thermography is safe and accurate for women with a history of dense or fibrocystic breast tissue, implants, reductions, or mastectomy and all adult women of any age.
-
Thermography has an average sensitivity and specificity of 90%.
An abnormal thermogram is 10x more significant as a future risk indicator for breast cancer than a first-order family history of the disease.
A persistent abnormal thermogram carries with it a 22x higher risk of future breast cancer.
An abnormal infrared image is the single most important marker of high risk for developing breast cancer.
-
Thermography acts like a report card for breast health, tracking how lifestyle changes or treatments impact the body over time. By monitoring subtle changes in heat patterns, it shows whether risk factors for breast cancer are increasing or decreasing, empowering women to make informed decisions about their health. This is by far the biggest advantage thermography has over any other form of screening.

THE EXPERTS HAVE SPOKEN
"Thermography adds a much needed piece to the puzzle, providing risk information and possible early warning that mammography cannot. Thermography can detect physiologic changes associated with cancer while it is still at a cellular level - before it becomes visible on a mammogram."
Dr. Hudson is President American College of Clinical Thermology and Author of "Journey to Hope"
"With thermography as your regular screening tool, it’s likely that you would have the opportunity to make adjustments to your diet, beliefs, and lifestyle to transform your cells before they became cancerous. Talk about true prevention."
Dr. Christianne Northrup, M.D.
"I agree with the Swiss Board - screening mammography should no longer be recommended from an ethical standpoint. Instead, a combination of ultrasound, thermography and physical examination are a much better choice. For certain women, an MRI scan which uses a magnet rather than radiation may also be appropriate."
Dr. Christine Horner, MD Surgeon, Breast Reconstruction
